One of my favorite summer events is by far the 4th of July! From an annual family reunion to fireworks in the evening. I think in the end it comes down to the time with family!
I want to ask you all a few questions and look forward to hearing your responses!!
*What 4th of July traditions do you have?
*How do you save on fireworks (Aside from not buying them! lol!)
*Do you have any awesome potluck recipes for the 4th of July celebrations we all may be attending?
Please share away! I always look forward to hearing from Living, Laughing, Saving readers!
I will even throw some answers in the comments as well!
Lennox has an awesome 4th of July Parade and there is a ton of other stuff to do in the park as well. They also have a pretty good fireworks display.
ReplyDelete*One of my favorite traditions that I have started since having my own children is purchasing the glow in the dark necklaces and bracelets! The kids LOVE them!! You can find these at the Dollar Tree, just $1 for 2 necklaces in a package and $1 for I believe 5 bracelets!
ReplyDelete*Did you know too that you can place the used ones in the freezer and use again by cracking them again. Some do not glow as bright, but still fun for the kiddos!
*My tips on saving moola on fireworks...
-Have everyone that is attending your party bring a few of their favorites.
-Use those FREE firework coupons that show up in the local papers!
-Keloland Spotlight deal is awesome for Hot Shots!
-Go with a list of what you want to buy...otherwise its like grocery shopping when you are hungry! :-)
-If you only want to spend $40 on fireworks, seriously only take $40 cash to spend!
-Shop and compare prices before purchasing
*And the potluck recipes...need your help here! :-)
We head up to our cabin on Lake Kampeska (watertown)...and ALL the family from both sides is invited. During the day they have a parade that they throw TONS of candy for the kids. Night time is filled with the best fireworks around town....pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the fireworks around the lake, they don't seem to stop for HOURS....of course we start a fire and the kids take in a few smores.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of anything I can make ahead or stick it in the crock pot....

1 larger can of chicken meat (drained)
1 'brick' cream cheese
1 bag of cheddar cheese
1 cup ranch dressing
1 cup buffalo wing sauce (I like cookies wing sauce)
Toss in crock and cook on high and continue to stir til all melted serve with chips and wha-la.
Fruit Cocktail rice
this is one my grandma and mom use to make....
1 lb of rice (do not use minute rice it's not as good)
3 cups of water
3 cups of milk
1 1/2 cup of sugar (or more if you like it sweeter)
*cook on stove top make sure rice is all the way ton, remove from heat and add
1 large can of fruitcocktail in heavy syrup if it's runny add back to the stove to cook off some of the water
ENJOY
Lastly....
Crockpot Corn
1 bag of frozen corn (don't use can corn)
3/4 brick of cream cheese
3 Tablespoons water
3 Tablespoons Sugar
toss in crock pot and cook for approx 3 hours, continue to stir to mix
I have a couple others I could share if you want...French Toast Casserole (make ahead and freezes amazing)....and a yummy Margarita Mix....

ReplyDeleteSo My Birthday is the 3rd of July and my BF growing up was the 2nd. We always had huge parties for our whole youth group come over. Her family would bring pizza (They use to own a pizza shop) and my family got cake and pop. We would swim till we were water logged eat, then swim again. Growing um in SOCAL we did not shot off fire works (As you might set the whole lower part of the state on fire) but we always went to one of the local High schools to watch the fireworks...
ReplyDeleteNow that I am all grown up (yeah right) and moved to SD… We tend to go to a friend’s house and blow stuff up. How to save money? Like was said above only take cash and go in with other people. More fun for all!!
Our pot luck foods…
Fruit, Fruit, and more fruit!
Also a big hit was otter pops, and taco salad (like the one I have linked)
