Here is a nice deal, as you prepare for the grilling season.  Grab today's Keloland Spotlight deal to get $15 worth of meat for just $8 at Neighbor's Meat Market in Sioux Falls.

Even if you live in Yankton or other areas and stop by Sioux Falls for shopping you can grab this deal and make use of the savings on your market meat!  The certficate doesn't expire until 6/30/11.

And you can actually grab 2 of these, but keep in mind you can only use 1 per visit.

With grilling season, camping season, graduations and even Memorial Day weekend just around the corner this is sure to be a great deal.

Anyone been to Neighbor's Meat Market?  Know what the prices are like?

Note: I called to ask about 90-93% lean ground hamburger, which they do not carry.  However the 85% lean runs about $4.25/lb.  Consider 46% savings (with today's deal) and you would be paying about $1.96 a pound.  And keep in mind this is just one kind of meat.  Thought I would throw it out there, in case you were interested.

Laughing - Today's "What The?!" Moment!

I have to admit that while I am out running errands I often run into some strange things that leave me thinking, "what the?!".  That ever happen to you?  I am sure it has.  Well, I thought I would share today's "What the?!" moment with you.

After loading the kids into the car at HyVee, I went to return the cart when I found that someone had parked in front of the cart return, which meant I had to wander around in the rain to find another cart return.  After returning to my car I just had to laugh.

The best part about this is that the vehicle parked in front of the cart return was a large SUV, which was of course sticking out into the driving area as well.  So I wondered, how could the driver not have noticed something was a little out of whack when walking around their vehicle to head into the store.  Nevermind the fact that they parked in front of the carts. Lol!

So to this driver I want to say thanks!  Thanks for the chuckle you gave me and the endless thoughts still running through my head as I try to answer the question you left in my head, "what the"?!

:-)  Have a great day!

Living - LOCALS: Sioux Falls Quarter Craze Mark Your Calendars!

Mark your calendars for The Sioux Falls Quarter Craze on Monday, May 2nd from 6:30 PM - 9 PM!

This is said to be a fun and entertaining evening!  And this time around proceeds are being donated to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life!

For those of you that have been around the blog for a while, you know that The Relay For Life is an event near and dear to my heart.  This year is no exception to that!

Come out to the VFW on 5/2 and get in on the fun all the while supporting a great cause.

What is a quarter craze?
FUN events where you can win fabulous new items from up to 20 companies, have a great time, AND donate to a great cause!

A Quarter Auction is a cross between a raffle and an auction. It's also a mix between a charity fundraiser and a direct sales vendor event. You purchase a ticket which gets you a seat during the event and gets you a numbered bidding paddle. Your paddle will have a corresponding numbered chip that will go into the drawing basket. Home-based business people put up items for "auction." Those items are on display for an hour before the event begins. When the auction starts, the emcee will hold up the item, give a brief description of it, and tell how many quarters it costs to bid. The bids ONLY COST between $0.25-0.75 total for any item!!!! You need to bring a roll or two (or more) of quarters. If you're interested in a chance to win that item, you'll put the required number of quarters in the bowl at your table and hold up your bidding paddle. For example, if an item valued at $15 is offered it would require a .25 bid. If you want it, you toss a quarter into the bowl and raise your paddle. The volunteers from the charity-of-the-month sweep through the crowd to collect the quarters and the emcee then draws numbers to find a winner. If your number is drawn, you win that item for only a quarter! If you didn't bid and your number is called, you call out "no bid!" and numbers continue to be drawn to find a winner. You can also buy a second (or third) paddle and double or triple bid to increase your odds. It sounds potentially complicated if you haven't been to one before but once you're there and see it in action, it makes sense and it's a blast!

Sounds like fun!  Still have more questions?  Check out the Sioux Falls Quarter Craze website.

Lowes -
Check if your store is participating in the free tree giveaway.  Note: this is on Saturday 4/23.

Starbucks -

Living - Whatchya Got Cookin'? Ham!

This time of year you can find different sales on whole or half bone-in hams that are worth taking a second glance at.  Even if you are a small family!  Why?  Well, consider making the ham for a meal and then repurposing the remainder of the ham for other meals down the road.  Ham freezes very well and can be thrown into numerous dishes.

Plus - keep in mind that SOME DAY it will warm up and you will not want to be running your oven, but craving home cooked meals.  The Summer months will be upon us and you will be running every direction with little time to focus on a family meal, but wanting to avoid the drive thru.  With the bags of ham in your freezer waiting to go, you are sure to pat yourself on the back when it comes to those hectic warm days ahead!  (That's right, it is okay to congratulate yourself on a job well done) :-)

We just made a half-ham last night, which I lucked out last week at HyVee's ham sale I came upon a Meat Manager's special where there were a couple hams marked down to $.99 a pound!  Doesn't hurt to keep your eyes open for the bright orange stickers!

After supper I added 7 new bags of ham to my freezer.  Here's what I did:

2 bags - Cut larger slices of ham
This will allow for our family to have a nice ham dinner down the road by simply reheating the ham.  Include a potato dish, corn, fruit salad.
Or you can throw the slices on the grill for that grill flavor!

5 bags - Cut ham into small chunks
By cutting the ham into chunks, it allows for a little versatility.
*Make a baked potato, add some ham and cheese on top and you have a simple/quick meal.
*Add to scrambled eggs for either breakfast or other meal
*Add to scalloped potatoes or cheesey hashbrowns to make them into a nice meal
*Egg bakes
*Quiche
*Throw on top of a salad
*Toss in a salad you are taking to a Summer potluck picnic

So, not only is it a good time to save a little money on the ham prices, it is also a great time to cook up the ham and plan ahead for the coming months.

I consider $1.69-$1.99 a decent price on ham, in case you are wondering.  This week you can find these prices.
HyVee - $1.89 HyVee bone-in Spiral Sliced whole ham
Sunshine - $1.69 John Morrell whole bone-in ham
Target - $1.99 Market Pantry half bone-in ham

Please share your ideas for leftover ham!

To see previous Whatchya Got Cookin'? posts, you can go over here.

Saving - Easter Basket Ideas On The Frugal!

Over the past weeks I have hinted at ideas on filling Easter baskets.  I thought I would round up those ideas and include a few additional ideas for those of you that my be struggling to get going.

 Basket Ideas:
Well first you must start with a "basket".  With my kids, I have kind of stepped away from the traditional basket that we grew up with to something that is reusable in some fashion.  Last year I grabbed a couple Halloween buckets (that do not shout Halloween - a Butterfly and SpongeBob bucket) on clearance at Target for this year's baskets.  But a couple other ideas:
*Plastic Buckets (like pictured above) - I have seen these for $1 at Michael's (and you could use the 40% off coupon from Sunday's paper) or I am pretty sure I saw some at Walgreens for around $1.50.
*Big colorful bowls - these can be reused for popcorn bowls or other uses
*Dollar store containers - there are normally some cute (and only $1) containers at Dollar Tree that you can designate for another use
*Rubbermaid (or like brand) plastic container with lid (remove lid in order to fill for Easter) that can be reused to hold markers, crayons, a certain toy (like all of my daughter's Littlest Pet Shops), etc.

Filler Ideas Deal Round Up:
*Clay Necklace idea here
*Filled Easter Eggs for Free!  Several posts about these, so hopefully you have grabbed them!
*Skittles Blenders at Target - here
*FurReal Snuggimals - if you are lucky enough to find the 2 pk for just $2.48 this is a Great deal - here
*Movie Certificate! - Did you get the eggs this week at Walgreens that spit out the 2 Red Box rentals?  Why not make a certificate with a code on it for the basket that they can then rent a movie of their choice!
*Crayola Color Wonder On The Go (if you are able to find them) - here
*Character Soft Soap - here (no longer on price cut, but still a decent price with coupon)
*Battery Operated Toothbrushes (deal still available) $1.99 - here
*Aquafresh Training Toothpaste here
*Free Stride Gum - here

Use $3/1 here or 4/3 Hasbro insert
= $3.44
