Living - Whatchya Got Cookin'?! You Make It Strawberry Shake!

It has been a few weeks since I last posted a recipe, as I have been a little behind in life in general.  Ever happen to you?  So hopefully now that I am getting caught back up you will see a new recipe or tip each week!  Feel free to send your frugal recipes and tips to me to possibly be included in a future post!

This week HyVee has a 16 oz package of strawberries on sale for just $1.18!  This is the insipriation for the recipe/tip I am going to show you this week!

Most of us probably know that going to our local ice cream parlor isn't the most 'frugal' trip to make.  However, there is something special about sharing a special ice cream treat with your family.  Admittedly, we indulge in this guilty pleasure at least once every couple months.  With the summer months ahead, it could become an even more frequent trip if our budget were to allow.  But what about using the fresh and tastey ingredients at home to make a special family treat?!  It is sure to be more budget friendly!

Ingredients Needed:
1 cup Strawberries washed and cut up
4 cups of your favorite Vanilla Ice Cream, somewhat softened (let set on counter for 10 minutes or so - you don't want it runny)
3 T Chocolate Syrup
Chocolate Syrup for drizzling

What to do:
Place cut up strawberries in blender and blend.  Add ice cream, blend until well mixed.  Add chocolate syrup and blend until mixed.

Drizzle inside of glass serving cup or bowl with chocolate syrup. Simply do this by tipping glass and drizzle in chocolate while turning the glass!  Spoon in shake for a fun look and added flavor!  Serve up an enjoy with your favorite people!

Tips:
*If your strawberries are an off season purchase and do not have much flavor, sprinkle with a touch of sugar and let set for 10 minutes.  This will help sweeten and bring the flavors out!
*I use this recipe for when I have stocked up on strawberries (on prices like this week's deal) and we are getting down to the bottom and worn out on strawberries.  Maybe they are a little mushy and not suitable for a fruit salad.  They are still good for use!
*You could stock up on strawberries now, wash them, flash freeze them and then package them for later use in this yummy recipe as well!
*You can add more ice cream for thicker treat or less depending on needs.  Play with the amounts to make it just right for your taste!
