Saving - Target Clearance Alert: 75% off Locks!
Just a heads up on some great deals I found yesterday at Target on locks! There was a full end cap full of key locks, word locks, and numeric code locks marked down by 75%! Just in time for the summer months and the bike riding season! I also grabbed one for the locker at the gym for $1.12!
Of course clearance can vary by store, but with all the different once marked down I thought it worth passing along in case you might find these goodies at your Target as well!

Saving - Free Kraft Shredded Cheese at HyVee?! Could It Be?
If you liked the awesome Kraft Shredded Cheese sale I told you about here that starts on Friday, you might get a kick out of this possible deal!
I knew that there was a catalina deal going on with Kraft products, but it has been DIFFICULT to get any straight answers as to what products are included in the deal. Today I figured I would go test a few things out. Well, even when I bought items that were advertised to be included it didn't print the $5 Catalina so I ended up at Customer Service. In discussing with Customer Service, the gal who is often working there advised me that the catalina should be good on pretty much any Kraft brand product. Specific, I know. But...there is hope! :-)
Here's the Catalina Info:
Buy 5 participating (this is the grey area) Kraft products now through 4/5/11, Receive a $5 coupon printed out good on your next order.
You can go here to see the products they have advertised in this week's ad as being included. However, there are certain to be SEVERAL others if Customer Service is correct. The little print out ad I received (pictured above) shows pictures of Oscar Mayer, Velveeta, Kraft Natural Cheese, Kraft Singles, Wheat Thins and Planters! It just doesn't show the specific products.
So here's the deal....IF Kraft Natural Cheese bagged shredded cheese is included you can grab free cheese over the next couple days. And here's how....
Purchase 5 Kraft Shredded Cheese 4/$5 ($1.25)
Use 2 $1/2 Natural Shredded Cheese 3/13 SS
= $4.25
Receive $5 coupon good on next order
= Free! Actually, better than free!
Now I am not saying that this deal will work because of all the non-specific information I have been able to obtain, but it could be a possibility and wanted to give you a heads up! Even if it doesn't work, a bag of cheese for $.75 is a pretty great deal too!
If you verify this deal working tomorrow before I get a chance to confirm, please come back and leave us a comment!

Living - Filling Easter Eggs: Non-Candy Ideas!
Each year I find myself trying to think of things to fill Easter eggs with that we use for egg hunts at Easter time. I like to include non-candy things (and of course sneak in some candies too)! Obviously you will want to make the eggs age-appropriate. And if something is specifically for a girl (or boy), you may want to put the child's name on it or add a tag for 'girl' or 'boy' on the egg.
Here is a list of items I have compiled and I ask that you PLEASE add to the list in the comments!
Some of the items below will require the bigger eggs.
Neutral
*Ice Cream coupons from kid's meals. (Example: The Burger Kings around here give out a free kid's ice cream with a kid's meal.) If you have extras laying around they would be a nice surprise for the kids.
*Stickers - cut sheets of stickers into single stickers or a few for each egg.
*Temporary tatoos
*Fruit chews
*Yogurt covered raisins or small boxes of raisins
*Coins
*Banditz bracelets
*Homemade coupons (you know how much I love coupons) - Make a special handmade coupon good for a day to the zoo, or ability to skip a chore, go shopping for an item under $5, a special day with Mommy or a special day with Daddy, etc!
*Coupons that tell a story of something to come - If your children are like mine, they know that if Mommy has a special coupon it means an adventure is to come whether it is buying something at the store, going out to eat, visiting a local attraction, etc! I noticed there are coupons on the back of HyVee receipts showing $1 off admission at the Butterfly House. My kids love that place and we haven't been there for a while. I just might slip the coupon in the Easter egg, which will tell the story to my kids that we get to go visit the Butterfly House soon! Maybe you have a coupon for one of their favorite snacks that don't fit in the egg...throw the coupon in instead!
*Add a piece of paper with a number on it, that goes to a corresponding prize - this is a great way to include things in the egg hunting that don't fit inside the eggs. Bubbles, Butterfly nets, Sidewalk Chalk, pretty much anything!
*Pretzels
*Chuck E Cheeses tokens (or tokens from a local arcade)
*Gerber puffs - for the babies!
*Erasers
*Bouncy balls
*Socks
*Squirt toys for bath tub
*Animal crackers
*Teddy Grahams
Boys
*Toy cars
*New undies (especially fun for the boys that are potty training!)
*Army guys
*Small plastic animals/dinosaurs
Girls
*Necklace
*New panties (especially fun for the girls that are potty training!)
*Rings
*Lip gloss or lip balms
*Nail polish - small bottles
*Littlest Pet Shops - take them out of the packaging
*Polly Pocket 'stuff' - taken out of the package
*Barrettes

Saving - Kmart Kool-Aid Packet Deal - $.01 Each! & 10 Alternative Uses!
Kmart has a great deal on Kool-Aid through 4/9. My family only drinks Kool-Aid very rarely, so I did a little research to find some alternative uses so we can all make use of this nice deal! ha!
Here's the deal!
Kool-Aid packets are on price drop through 4/9 for $.10 (regular price $.25)
Purchase 15 packets = $1.50
Use Buy 10 Get 5 Free coupon 3/13 SS (will deduct $1.25 for reg price)
= $.25 or $.01 each!
And 10 alternative uses I found here and here!
1. Easter Egg Dye - With Easter just around the corner, I was excited to see this idea! Mix a packet of Kool-Aid in a cup with 2 Tbl vinegar and 1/2 cup water. (I am going to try 2 packets of the same color to make a deeper color)
2. Dishwasher Cleaner - dump a pack of unsweetened lemon Kool-Aid into the soap dispenser, run the wash cycle. Removes stains and hard water deposits. (You know that orange color in your dishwasher?! I gave this one a try and saw a slight change.)
3. Frosting Version #1 - Fold in a pack of Kool-Aid into a container of thawed whipped topping. If the frosting tastes a little too sour, add in a little sweetener to taste.
4. Frosting Version #2 - Mix Kool-Aid packet into vanilla frosting tub.
5. Water Colors - Pour Kool-Aid into ice cube tray, one compartment per color. Stir 1 tablespoon of water into each compartment; stir until the powders are completely dissolved.
6. Tie Dye - You can dye any cotton item such as tee shirts, socks, bed sheets, towels, as long as it is cotton. The article you want to tie dye must be clean and dry. Pour each color package of Kool-Aid into an individual glass bowl. Stir a ¼ cup of white vinegar into each bowl; make sure the powders dissolve completely. Gather the fabric up in several places and secure with several rubber bands. Dip each bunch into a bowl of Kool-Aid. Leave the rubber bands in place and set aside to dry. Once dry, remove the rubber bands and spread it out so it can completely dry. Put it in the clothes dryer by itself and dry on high for 15 minutes to set the colors in. (I really want to give this one a try! I think the kids would have a blast!)
7. Lip Gloss - To make a fruity lip gloss put a small amount of petroleum jelly into a microwave-safe bowl. Stir some Kool-Aid in, enough to make it the color you desire. Add a little sugar, then, place the bowl in a microwave oven for about five or six seconds, just enough to soften it. (What a fun idea for a girl's birthday party!)
8. Play Dough - Mix 1 cup flour, 4 tablespoons salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar and 1 package of Kool-Aid into a medium-sized pot. Add 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to the mixture and stir over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until the mixture forms a ball in the pot. Then remove and kneed the dough until smooth. Put in a plastic bag and refrigerate.
9. Check for Toilet Leaks - Lift the lid off the toilet tank and pour Kool-Aid into the tank. Use a darker colors. Don't flush the toilet! Just watch the toilet bowl, if you see the Kool-Aid float through from the tank, then you have a leak. The test can take from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the leak.
10. Remove Rust Stains - Remove rust stains on your driveway by mixing unsweetened lemon Kool-Aid with just a little water and scrub.
And who knows, maybe the kids will set up a Kool-Aid stand this summer!

Living - Whatchya Got Cookin'?! You Make It Strawberry Shake!
It has been a few weeks since I last posted a recipe, as I have been a little behind in life in general. Ever happen to you? So hopefully now that I am getting caught back up you will see a new recipe or tip each week! Feel free to send your frugal recipes and tips to me to possibly be included in a future post!
This week HyVee has a 16 oz package of strawberries on sale for just $1.18! This is the insipriation for the recipe/tip I am going to show you this week!
Most of us probably know that going to our local ice cream parlor isn't the most 'frugal' trip to make. However, there is something special about sharing a special ice cream treat with your family. Admittedly, we indulge in this guilty pleasure at least once every couple months. With the summer months ahead, it could become an even more frequent trip if our budget were to allow. But what about using the fresh and tastey ingredients at home to make a special family treat?! It is sure to be more budget friendly!
Ingredients Needed:
1 cup Strawberries washed and cut up
4 cups of your favorite Vanilla Ice Cream, somewhat softened (let set on counter for 10 minutes or so - you don't want it runny)
3 T Chocolate Syrup
Chocolate Syrup for drizzling
What to do:
Place cut up strawberries in blender and blend. Add ice cream, blend until well mixed. Add chocolate syrup and blend until mixed.
Drizzle inside of glass serving cup or bowl with chocolate syrup. Simply do this by tipping glass and drizzle in chocolate while turning the glass! Spoon in shake for a fun look and added flavor! Serve up an enjoy with your favorite people!
Tips:
*If your strawberries are an off season purchase and do not have much flavor, sprinkle with a touch of sugar and let set for 10 minutes. This will help sweeten and bring the flavors out!
*I use this recipe for when I have stocked up on strawberries (on prices like this week's deal) and we are getting down to the bottom and worn out on strawberries. Maybe they are a little mushy and not suitable for a fruit salad. They are still good for use!
*You could stock up on strawberries now, wash them, flash freeze them and then package them for later use in this yummy recipe as well!
*You can add more ice cream for thicker treat or less depending on needs. Play with the amounts to make it just right for your taste!
Coupons/Deals:
*Grab your strawberries this week for $1.18 a 16 oz carton at HyVee
*$1/1 Blue bunny ice cream here
Cost (approximate):
Strawberries - $.50
Ice Cream - $2.00
Chocolate Syrup - $.50
total = $3 for about 4 nice servings!

Living - New Disclosure on Some Posts!
I wanted to give you a shout out or heads up on a new tag I will be adding to some of the posts that I include on the blog.
Often times I post about good deals found on daily deal sites, such as Groupon and the countless others now out there. And typically when I post these deals I include my personal referral link, which could lead to some sort of incentive on my end. For example: When you refer a friend to Groupon through your personal link and they make a purchase that day, you receive a credit for $10.
I want you to be certain to know that I only post deals on this blog if I truly think they are a good deal and something that I feel you might find interest in as well. I try not to go over board on daily deal site deals or other 'referral' or affilliate programs, but when it makes sense I will try to pass those savings on to you! And, possibly in return earn a little something for doing so. :-) This blog isn't big enough to make a living, but a $10 credit even once a month gives me a nice warm fuzzy, that my "hobby" has possibly earned my family a free meal! ha ha!
Anyway, the point is, I just want to put this out there because I want to be open with you and let you know 'what I am up to' when you see the following verbiage on future posts:
