Saving - Free Herdez Tortilla Chips HyVee East 10th Location!
Found a nice deal on tortilla chips tonight. Head over to the East 10th Street Hy-Vee location and you may find Herdez Tortilla Chips marked on Price Decline for $.99. Use the $1/1 here to grab the chips for free. Be sure to have additional items in your order to take care of the overage.
The chips are located at the front end of an aisle, closer to the produce section. I am not sure if they are also located in the normal chip aisle.
My husband also spotted a Schell seasonal 6 pack of beer for $5.00, normally $11! See he can be a deal shopper too! :-)
What price declines or unadvertised deals are you finding this week at Hy-Vee?

Living - On The Grill: Strawberry & Peach Heaven!
I have been having fun this summer trying new things on the grill. I hope to share more, as time allows. I have a moment this evening and want to be sure to tell you about the recipe I put together tonight for a bit of Heaven in the mouth. For now, we will call it Grilled Strawberry & Peach Heaven.
I made up a 4 aluminum "dishes" and filled them with slices of peaches and strawberries.
Then I sprinkled the fruit with cinnamon, drizzled lightly with honey and then threw on about 8-10 miniature marshmallows.
The grill was heated to 375 degrees and I placed the "dishes" of fruit on the top rack, heating for about 15 minutes.
Not only does the fruit cook through nicely and the miniature marshmallows roast to a golden brown but a beautiful and a truly yummy, you-will-be-licking-it-off-the-foil juice develops at the bottom!
This dessert/side dish received 5 stars from the hubs, and my children, including the picky 4 year old! I wanted to whip up another batch and indulge immediately! It truly was perfect.
I would love to hear about your grilling dishes. Leave a comment and share with us!

Saving - Preparing For Christmas 2013: Christmas Book Countdown!
I have heard of others doing a fun countdown to Christmas with their little ones where they wrap up Christmas books and each day as they countdown to Christmas, the kids open one up and they all read it.
I have been meaning to give it a try, but somehow Christmas always sneaks up on me and when you are in the Christmas season already it is hard to find Christmas books at a reasonable (okay, maybe frugal) price. So last year I wrote it down during Christmas so that after Christmas I could keep my eyes peeled for possibly some on clearance deals. Well, I found a couple, but I really wanted more than a 2 day countdown, ha!
While shopping rummages in the past few weeks it dawned on me.....why do they have to be new when "new to us" would do just fine!

I have found an abundance of Christmas books at rummage sales and offered for as little as a quarter! I have since picked up 12 books paying a total of $5! The picture above shows the start of my collection; hard cover, soft cover, big, little, you name it. They are all clean and in nice shape and carefully hidden away awaiting their debut! I cannot wait to wrap them up for my kids. They are going to LOVE this!
So, if you have ever considered a Christmas book collection countdown to Christmas it is not too late to do it on the frugal. Team up with a friend and keep double the eyes open for those awesomely priced Christmas books!
Note: Thrift stores may be another exciting option.

Saving/Living - Penny Per Ounce & Red White & Blue!
Just a reminder that the Gas Stop at the corner of 57th & Western is offering a construction special with penny per ounce fountain drinks and slushes!
A 20 ounce cup = $.20, a 32 ounce cup = $.32....well, you get the picture!
There is a bit of traffic woes in the area, but as long as you aren't going at high traffic times in the city, it really isn't that bad at all to get in there.
Yesterday we stopped in to grab slushes for the kids and my daughter decided she wanted a festive drink. We built a red, white and blue slush. Cherry on the bottom, Sprite flavor next and blue raspberry on top! She was super excited and wanted me to share it with you all. Simple, fun, cheap and festive!
