Saving - Discounted Zoo Membership! Good in Sioux Falls and More!

Des Moines Groupon is offering up discounted zoo memberships today!

How does this benefit me if I live in Sioux Falls?
Just like the Great Plains Zoo membership, the Blank Park Zoo membership offers great Reciprocity deals including unlimited FREE access to the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls!

So, if you purchase a Blank Park Zoo membership, it is good for your visits at the Sioux Falls zoo!

Plus, just like the GP Zoo membership you will still receive HALF off entrance at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.  This comes in handy for us, as we try to make at least 1 trip a year!

Great Plains Zoo Membership is $78.12 for a year good for 2 adults and up to 6 kids (in your family) ages 3-18.

Today's Des Moines Groupon deal offers a similar membership deal for just $44!

How do you get in on this deal?
Login or register here (if you haven't already)
Choose "Visit More Cities" at top
Find Des Moines
Click Buy and complete the necessary information

Fine Print:
Limit One
May buy multiples as gifts
Must activate by 4/20/11, which you will be given an option to acitivate online

Keep in mind, a family of 2 adults and 1 child would only need to visit the GP Zoo ($19.50 a visit) 3 times to pay for this Groupon deal!

Note: I did contact the Great Plains Zoo and verified by phone (367-8313 x 10) that the reciprocity list is updated for 2011 and will not change for the year and that it does indeed include free entrance with the Blank Park zoo membership.  See Blank Park zoo Reciprocal List here.  See GP Zoo list here.  If you have any questions, you can contact them as well.  I also verified with Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha (402-733-8401) that both Blank Park and GP Zoo membership discounts are Half off the admission.

Not from Sioux Falls or Des Moines?  Be sure to check out the reciprocity list at Blank Park Zoo to see if you can make this deal work for you as well!

PLUS - for those already signed up for Groupon, remember that you can go through Ebates here to earn 3% back on your Groupon purchase!!  Yipee!

I am quite excited about this deal, Shaina! The kids LOVE the zoo, so I had to check out this deal and make it work for us in SF! I read that you can activate online in the comments part of the groupon deal...and if not, well Groupon will be refunding me! ha! Otherwise we will all be planning one big trip to Des Moines! ha! I have never been to their zoo, so might be worth the trip. :-)

  3. This is a good deal. However, it doesn't support the zoo here in Sioux Falls. Our zoo is always in need of money, and going this route gives ALL the profit to the Des Moines zoo. It's a GREAT deal for them... they've gotten the money for over 3,000 new memberships... many of which will probably never even use their zoo.

  4. @ Anonymous, I considered this as well before purchasing. However, I also considered that it is up to the Sioux Falls zoo to market their organization/business if they are in need of additional funds. If my family cannot afford a full family membership here at Sioux Falls for $78, but I can afford $44 is it not better off for the Sioux Falls zoo that I atleast come visit their zoo rather than not visit at all? In doing so, I will most likely spend money in feeding the animals, purchasing snacks or spending money in the gift shop throughout my visits. In fact we spend an arm and a leg on feeding the goats each year!
Is it that the Great Plains Zoo cannot set up their own Groupon offer? They could if they wanted to and I think it would be a huge seller in the area! And just as many may have purchased the Blank Park membership without intensions of going there, there is that same opportunity for the SF zoo to make money through those purchasing the membership with no intension of coming to this zoo.
Quite honestly, I hope that the GPZ does a Groupon offer as I am quite sure that several South Dakotans that live around SF would purchase a membership that wouldn't normally do so! Let's hope!
